Saint Francis—patron saint and namesake of San Francisco. Francis of Assisi was from a wealthy Italian family. He abandoned his family wealth and dedicated his life to Jesus. Francis lived simply and promoted spirituality rooted in the Gospels. He is known for seeing God in nature and his love for all living things, especially the people of God.
