Home and Hope

Home and Hope is a ministry our parish participates in together with other churches in San Carlos.   The purpose of this ministry is to provide housing and meals to homeless families.

Here is how this ministry works:

Every week, three to six homeless families are housed in large tents inside the hall of a church in the county area.  Currently St. Charles participates on Tuesdays and Fridays whenever Epiphany Episcopal (at Arroyo and Cedar) or United Community Church (at Arroyo and Elm) hosts the families. This occurs approximately 6 to 8 times a year.

We provide:

  • The meal that evening
  • One person who sleeps over to provide for security and get everyone up, breakfasted and out by 7am the next morning.

The teams are led by a few of the program veterans. One person takes the menu lead, prepares the entrée and works with the rest of the team to complete the meal preparation (usually brought from home). We then clean up and spend some time with the families as appropriate. Training is provided by those with prior experience and by Home and Hope.

If you are interested you will find this to be easy, rewarding and be thankful for all your blessings!
