LETTER TO PARENTS
August 1, 2012
Dear Middle School Families,
Welcome to the Edge, St. Charles’ Middle School Youth Ministry Program. Our goal is to give our middle school kids the edge—the Catholic edge, the Jesus edge—as they go through this time of remarkable change in their lives.
In many respects middle school youth are on the edge because so much is going on in their lives physically, mentally, spiritually, and socially. It can be a very stressful and difficult time for them and their parents. Some psychologists have dubbed this time in a child’s life as "the last great chance."
While their peers begin to take on a more significant role during these years, middle schoolers are still very connected and influenced by their parents. They are still craving a close relationship with you and other adults in their lives. That is why we are welcoming you to the Edge, too. We consider your participation in this ministry as vital as anything we do. There are many ways you can participate.
-
Mark your calendar for our Edge Nights and family potluck— (see calendar).
-
Bring the whole family to Mass at St. Charles. As we continue to work toward making the 5pm Sunday night Mass more oriented for young people we’d love your support.
-
Come to the Edge Everything goes more smoothly when we have parents around to help with check-in, logistics, and discipline. Whether you can commit to coming on a regular basis or even just one or two Edge Nights, your presence frees our teen leaders to focus on the group discussion and activities rather than on discipline.
-
Be a snack parent We ask parents to take turns bringing in the snacks, preparing and serving the snacks, and cleaning up. This is a huge help to the leaders and it offers a fun break/social time for the Edgers.

We have some great Edge Nights planned! Please fill out the attached forms and send them in or drop them off at St. Charles by the deadline so that we can know how many groups to form and how many teen leaders we need to recruit/train. We will be planning and putting our groups together and want to make sure we make a spot for your child.
See you at the Edge!
